A time of rest and a return to normal life

First of all, I want to wish everyone Happy World Down Syndrome Day. Because we have been blessed with three girls with Down Syndrome, this is always a day of celebration for us. A day to reflect on all of the blessings that our daughters bring to us. I am hoping to have some updated pictures of the three girls to share in the next few days.
For the past week or so, I have been thinking about a blog post that I wanted to write. We had entered a season of peace and calm, which is uncommon for us. Jonathan has come through his initial adjustment and “testing period.” We know that there will be many more periods of testing as he continues to develop and reach new levels of trust with us, but for now we are enjoying his better behavior. We have settled into a rhythm of life that is peaceful and stable. We are enjoying a brief break from doctors appointments. I had planned to write about how much we were enjoying this little time of rest, even though we know that it won’t last very long. But before I got the chance to sit down and write all of these thoughts out, our calm spell ended. Lol! We knew it wouldn’t stay like that forever.
This morning as we were getting ready to leave the house, our old van refused to start. Greg is going to contact AAA and have it towed to the shop. My parents are going to let us borrow their 15 passenger van until we can get ours fixed, and we are thankful that we will still be able to get around.
Our break from medical appointments has come to an end as well. I am calling this afternoon to try to get a referral for Isabelle to ENT. Greg is going to call to schedule Jonathan’s follow-up visit with the International Adoption Clinic. Jonathan also has appointments coming up with ENT and audiology so that we can begin to make a plan about his ear and hearing. And we are going to ask the IAC to refer us to the Autism Center so that we can begin pursuing and official autism diagnosis.
As we head back into a period of more activity and all of the challenges that come along with that, we are thankful for the time of rest and refreshment that God has given us.
